One has recently been discovered scam relating to Unieuro and PlayStation 5: a fake ecommerce, very well built, which resembles the well-known Italian electronics chain offers the latest generation console of the Japanese house at all in all credible prices – not overly discounted by “too good to be true”, in short. These days, it’s still hard to find it available for purchase.
You have to look at the URL to understand that it is a fake site: instead of unieuro.it is unieuro.roma.it. It’s a nice ploy because, again, it’s plausible – no “strange” domains that might make you suspicious. The checkout page design is also different, but unless you use the site for purchases very often, who would notice? And then, the design of the sites changes all the time.
At present the page is still online. Browsing around the site, the limits of the initiative become quite evident – if you use the side menu to search for other products, it’s easy to run into a 404 error (non-existent page), for example. Very smart, however, the idea of referring to the real site (unieuro.it) if you try to go manually to the home (unieuro.roma.it). Dday’s colleagues observe that anyone can buy a third-level domain on roma.it, provided of course that it is free. the advice is to keep well away from this site and always check url and domains, especially in emails, very used for this type of scam.
