Chrome receives fingerprint lock for Incognito tabs

We are talking about a novelty concerning the appearance of the Chrome security and privacy. On the well-known Google browser finally comes for everyone the possibility of block access incognito tabs open on your device. By blocking we mean the possibility of opening them only after having fingerprint recognized of the device owner.

This feature was first spotted last September, when it became available to a small number of users, after manually enabling it via one of the characteristic flags of Chrome.

In the last few hours it seems that Google has took the final stepreleasing the new Chrome feature for all its userseven for those who have not installed the beta or have not manually enabled its flag.

The screenshots you find in the gallery below show how the interface of the feature actually looks when it’s active: the feature consists in being able to block access to Incognito tabs. The lock is activated as soon as you leave Chrome, and is prompted the authentication when you try to access Incognito tabs again. The authentication required matches that required for unlock your smartphone. In short, something analogous to the functionality of fingerprint lock that WhatsApp offers.

The novelty should be being distributed via server to those who have updated Chrome to version 109. The option to enable it should be in the section Privacy and Security of the Chrome app settings. For those who haven’t received it yet and are eager to try it, we repeat it below procedure to enable it manually:

1. Open Google Chrome on Android.
2. In the address bar go to: chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android
3. To select Enabled to activate the option.
4. Restart Chrome using the button that will appear on the screen.
5. After Chrome restarts (you may need more than one), go to Settings and then to the section Privacy and Security.
6. Look for the option Block Incognito tabs when you sign out of Chrome and activate it.
7. The switch is turned on and will require authentication if you try to access incognito tabs again.
