Last July, Google released in France a detailed guide on Pixel 6a repair. Now, still in the transalpine country, the company has released the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro repair manuals. However, these documents are not accessible by users from other countries: they are, therefore, limited to France.
In detail, these manuals explain “how to try to fix the problems you are having with your phone and to fix it”. They are therefore intended to provide detailed instructions on how “repair a damaged Pixel phone using original parts; take your Pixel phone apart and put it back together; remove and replace parts; extend the life of your phone and protect the environment.”
Google, among other things, before accessing the guides, highlights that “Repairing your device yourself could put you at risk to your safety or damage your device. We recommend that only independent professional repairers and users with adequate technical experience repair their phone themselves.” The manuals are quite detailed – the one for the Pixel 7 is 173 pages while the one for the 7 Pro reaches 197 – and include diagrams and pictures of the assembly and disassembly processes. In addition, a section is dedicated to common problems for various components.
From the beginning of 2021, France has asked manufacturers of smartphones, laptops and TVs to provide a repairability index. It is a score of up to 10 that is provided by the manufacturers themselves based on the degree of repairability of their devices.
