In these hours, Acea is undergoing a hacker attack, which apparently has been going on since this morning. There are not many details on the matter but it seems that the problem has been managed effectively, so as to nullify any disservices and malfunctions. Therefore, there is no impact on the distribution of water and electricity, as reported by the main news agencies.
Acea is successfully managing the problem together with the National Cybersecurity Agency (Acn) and the Postal Police, moreover, the Company’s internal services would be mainly interested, which are currently undergoing verification and control.
The manager should be the ransomware known as Black Basta, which has been claiming victims almost everywhere in the world since April 2022. Ramsonware is malware-type software capable of limiting access to the device it infects by encrypting its contents, and then asking for a ransom in order to restore normal data use. Perhaps someone will remember it, but San Carlo (yes, the company of the famous potato chips) was also hit by similar malware in 2021.
At the moment there is no other information on Acea’s situation, but we will discuss it again in the event that further details emerge on the matter.
