Nissan Ariya: 27 thousand km from the North Pole to the South Pole

nissan wants to demonstrate the potential of the electric and, specifically, of his Ariya, through a particular and extreme project of which he had already mentioned some details in the past. Indeed, the Japanese electric will cope a journey of 27,000 km from the North (magnetic) Pole to the South Pole. The “Pole to Pole” expedition will last 10 months and, if there are no hitches, it will leave in March. In command of this expedition is a team consisting of Chris and Julie Ramsey (husband and wife) who are not new to challenges of this kind.

For example, they were the first to complete the 17,000 km Mongol Rally in an electric vehicle, a Nissan Leaf. Obviously, for this new expedition, Nissan has developed a special version of its Ariya so that the electric crossover is able to tackle any type of route.

The Nissan Ariya has been set up by the technicians of the Japanese manufacturer in collaboration with Arctic Trucks, a company specialized in equipping vehicles for polar expeditions. The exterior of the car has been strengthened, the suspension specially modified for off-road driving and the wheel arches adapted to accommodate 39-inch BF Goodrich tires.

In this way, the Japanese crossover has been modified to be able to tackle glaciers, mountain passes and dunes in the desert. The powertrain, however, was not touched. Additional equipment also includes a drone, with a launch pad located on the roof of the car.

Presenting this particular version of its Ariya, Nissan also explained how the car will be able to recharge in the polar regions. Thus, a prototype power generatortowable, which includes a wind turbine and solar panels. In this way, it will be possible to exploit the strong winds and the many hours of light of the polar areas to generate electricity with which to recharge the car.

All in all, a marketing initiative certainly curious that it will still allow the mechanics of the Japanese electric crossover to be whipped in extreme conditions. It will also be interesting to find out how this prototype generator with wind turbine and solar panels will perform. Chris Ramsey, commented:

With our adventures we want to demonstrate the great capabilities of electric vehicles. We take production cars, make the strictly necessary modifications and then put them to the test. We did the same with the Nissan Ariya. The special Pole to Pole version isn’t much different from the stock version, but we needed more powerful suspension and comfortable 39-inch tyres.
