After the official presentation of Samsung, a first benchmark of the new Galaxy S23 equipped with a customized version of the Qualcomm chip was leaked, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In particular, the test put the GPU to the test, also making a comparison with the previous generation of smartphones. The benchmark used was “3DMark Wild Life Extreme”, which would push GPU capabilities to the limit. The Galaxy S23 and S23+ scored 3,811 and 3,799 points respectively, with both phones averaging a framerate of 20.80; the Galaxy S22+ powered by Exynos 2200 SoChowever, scored 1,689 points and averaged a 10.10 framerate.

The difference between the two generations of devices also emerged in the comparison between the Ultra variants. The 2023 model, in fact, exceeded 3,874 points and averaged 23.20 fps during the benchmarks, while the 2022 model scored 1,912 points, reaching an average of 11.40 fps. In short, the Adreno 740 GPU of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has literally outclassed the Xclipse 920 of the Exynos 2200.

The gap in graphics performance between the new and old models, therefore, would appear to be important.

For that matter, the Xclipse 920 chip has a frequency of 555 MHz, which is already lower than the 680 MHz of the standard Adreno 740 GPU. The new Galaxy S23 series even uses one overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, characterized by an increased GPU frequency of 719 MHz. Obviously, we have to wait for the field test, however the outcome of the story would seem to have already been written.
