Internet Exporter ends its run today, the first release dates back to August 16, 1995 and now, after (almost) 28 years, the Microsoft web browser is permanently turned off even for the latest versions still active. IE11 desktop app was disabled through a Microsoft Edge update and therefore not with a Windows update as initially communicated by the Redmond company.
Any remaining devices that have not already been redirected from Internet Explorer 11 to Microsoft Edge should be redirected with the Microsoft Edge update scheduled for February 14, 2023. The change to use the Microsoft Edge update to disable IE is intended to provide a better user experience and help organizations move the last remaining IE11 users to Microsoft Edge. As a reminder, IE11 is no longer supported as of June 15, 2022.
As Microsoft itself recalls, support for Internet Explorer 11 ended on June 15 of last year, therefore from that date the browser he no longer received any kind of support.
Organizations that have already migrated from IE11 to Microsoft Edge with “IE11 mode” * they will not be impacted when the IE11 desktop app is permanently disabled on February 14, 2023. […] IE11 visuals, such as the IE11 icons in the Start menu and taskbar, will be removed from the June 2023 Monthly Security Update (B release) scheduled for June 13, 2023.
