Pune: The Academy School (TAS), Pune, on account of Children’s Mental Health Week 2023, the TAS Cares department organised different workshops for students to educate them about the importance of good mental health and sexual awareness. For students of Class 1 and 2, a workshop of ‘safe and unsafe touch’ was held while an ‘Are you okay?’ for Class 3 to 9 students, a statement issued by the school said.
The ‘safe-unsafe touch’ workshop began with showing the children an animated video that taught them how to identify the ‘no touch’ areas, understand who are ‘safe adults’ and how to clearly communicate with parents about any bad experience. For better clarity on the concept, practical sessions were given where few children were asked to volunteer and demonstrate examples to teach the concept of ‘personal space’ and ‘bad touch’ such as hugging, pushing, slapping, and patting on the shoulder. The session concluded with discussion among students on the difference between good and bad touch.
The ‘Are you okay?’ workshop began with the screening of a short film of the same name for grade 7-9 students followed by a reflection activity. The short film highlighted issues faced by teenagers being bystanders and/or victims to bullying. It also depicted how social acceptance weighs heavy and the stress of social media follows you home and that no one can make it through alone. It even reiterates the role of a school counsellor in helping teenagers deal with such challenges, added the statement.
