Gboard takes personalization one step further

The work around the gboard, there keyboard most used in Android (but not the only one). Apart from some innovations such as the new emoji selector, the developers of Google in the last times they focused on bar of instruments (toolbar), the first row of keys that allows you to access various functions.

In fact, for some months there has been an indication in some beta versions of a new design for keys and above all new possibilities customization, which allow you to choose which ones show. For a few days novelty have been released in the beta channel (version 12.6 of the app) for some users: let’s go and discover them!

The most evident novelty is represented by the buttons, which embrace the rectangular shape both in the bar itself (where they were not delimited by a border), which in the menu of customization (image below, the current situation on the left, the new one on the right).

The button that allowed you to access the menu (the one with three dots), formerly round and positioned far to the right, is now moved first to the left and is represented by a 2×2 grid of squares. Unlike the others, it keeps the round shapeto make it easier to recognize, while the icon of microphone stays on the far right, with no border.

In the customization menu, which contains buttons not present on the bar, the theme with a rectangular border continues, and we find two new buttons, emojis And Language selectoruseful if you don’t want to see the on option space bar.

Also now the available spaces in the bar are six, but the big news is that they may not just be everyone customized by accessing the customization menu (the round one with four squares), but if you want you can also leave some only one. In fact, it was not possible before change them, and there were only four.

The latest news concerns the section settings, which is accessed by tapping the gear icon from the toolbar.

Before, the last entry at the bottom was called Advancewhile now she was given the name Privacy. There have been some changes on this page, in order to restrict its functions to the new denomination.

Show app icon it is in fact moved to the menu Preferences, while the voice Personalization became Personalization for you. Also Improve speech and typing for everyone using data saved on your device has changed, becoming Get better for everyonewith clearer explanations.

As we said, these innovations can be seen in the beta of Gboard number 12.6. We, despite having installed it, do not see them, but apparently Google he only issued them to a small number of users, with the availability which is expected to expand in the coming weeks.
