After you add captions to your meeting recordings, Google brings on Meet another news: 360 degree virtual backgrounds. The feature was teased last month and is now being made available for mobile video calls iOS and Android.

It is a tool more fun than usefulwhich takes advantage of the gyroscope built-in of the smartphone to show a background that moves according to the position of our device: if we move to the right or to the left, the background will change accordingly, giving a “realistic” effect, as if we were really inside the chosen scenario.

The options, says Google, will be many, offering us the possibility to customize our video call with 360-degree backgrounds of different nature. We see one of these in the demonstration gif published by the Mountain View company on its Google Workspace updates site (link in SOURCE). Administrators will have the ability to turn user wallpapers on and off.

It remains to be seen how much this function can distract who is watching us. This novelty thus joins the one released in January of dynamic reaction emojis: for the moment, heart, thumbs up, thumbs down, party popper, wave, joy, amazed, thoughtful and crying are available.

360-degree wallpapers are available to all Google Workspace users and all personal accounts.
