The second “Moment Update” of Windows 11 is now very close: the Redmond giant released it last night also in the Release Preview channel, via build 22621.1343. The RP channel is the most “external”, or close to the stable one, of the Insider test circuit, and we can say that broadly speaking it only receives builds that are practically ready for the official launch (once we would have talked about Release Candidates, for reference). So, barring serious problems that emerge at the last moment, we can expect distribution via Windows Update starting next month.
“Moment Updates” are comparable to Google Pixel Feature Drops, and are a mechanism introduced by Microsoft recently. Through them they come new features of the operating system. The first Moment Update arrived last fall, just a month after version 22H2, and includes tabbed browsing for File Explorer, Taskbar overflow, the ability to right-click Task Manager from the Taskbar and more. The main novelties of Moment 2, however, will be:
- Taskbar optimized for tablets. There will be a “compact” mode that shows only status icons and essential information, a bit like the top bar of Android and iOS. It will expand to the classic mode, with app icons and all other controls, when the user taps or swipes up.
