We took a tour of Samsung’s stand in Barcelona on the occasion of Mobile World Congress 2023. The company has already presented its flagship products, namely the new Galaxy S23 family of smartphones, in recent weeks, so let’s say that from this point of view there wasn’t much to tell, but the area organized by Samsung Display was another story. The division of the South Korean giant led several innovative and futuristic technologies for its OLEDsespecially focus on two themes: foldable displays and energy saving. Here is a short list:

  • Flex S display: display that can be folded in two places in an S shape, then once inwards and once outwards
  • Flex G display: display that can be folded in two points in a G shape, i.e. always inwards
  • Flex Notes display: Book-like display (Galaxy Z Fold-style), but notebook-sized and naturally purpose-oriented

Instead of just displaying these panels in a conventional way, Samsung has also set up an area where it tries to imagine a concrete application of these innovative technologies: it is theinterior of a vehicle, whether it’s a spaceship or a car you decide, stuffed with retractable OLEDs, rollable, foldable and whatever with varying degrees of automation. Naturally it will still take several years before technologies of this type actually arrive on the market, but at least we can let our imaginations travel!
