It is increasingly likely that the next generation Nintendo console will arrive in 2024. In the past few hours, new indications have emerged in this regard, even if they are objectively rather weak – the source is a report by Ampere Analysis, which deals with the latest consumer spending trends in the more general world of video games and analyzes the sales of all the main consoles .

The release of a new console from the Japanese company is only mentioned in passing, without further elaboration and information. In short, it is reasonable to expect that the giant will not overturn the Switch formula, which has been so successful – from 2017 to today, Nintendo has sold around 122 million units, the third best result of all time for a console; but we don’t know if it will be a sort of Switch Pro (which, again according to rumors, was in the works, but was then canceled for fear of another Wii U-style flop) or a Switch 2, for example.

That something is boiling in the pot has already been established for some time. Meanwhile, why the 6 years of Switch are starting to make themselves felt, and certain technical specifications today make people turn up a bit, regardless of the OLED technology of the display; and then because references and allusions are multiplying – even from official sources. One of the latest revelations has come from a somewhat unsuspected area – the famous story of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft.

As we know it is a very controversial operation and with the potential to significantly alter the balance of the gaming industry, from which Nintendo could benefit indirectly since Microsoft has undertaken to bring the Call of Duty franchise, owned by Activision, on its platforms.

In one of the many legal documents accompanying the investigations for approval by the authorities, the NSO service, Nintendo Switch Online, is quickly mentioned, which allows owners of Nintendo consoles to play retro titles for Game Boy and beyond; and it is said that such a service is only compatible with Switch and one other product, whose name is classified.

However, it should be noted that just a few days ago some interesting information was leaked on 4chan according to which new Switch models will arrive already at the end of this year. As we know 4chan is a source that should always be taken with very, very suspicion, but it is at the same time true that the user author of the indiscretion had correctly predicted everything that the company announced on February 27th on the occasion of Pokémon Day.
