Take-Two confirmed the rumors circulating about the layoffs and emerged with a Twitter post by Jason Schreier by Bloomberg. The company stated that it is “actions necessary to position the company for another long period of success“. However, he did not provide further details on the actions taken.

Schreier wrote yesterday that the publisher was making some layoffs as part of private divisionthe publishing label behind titles like OlliOlli World And Kerbal Space Program. Take-Two did not specify how many employees are involved in which divisions of the company.

In a statement issued to PC Gamerthe publisher said it has made targeted cuts in US offices, and more specifically in the areas of “business operations and label publishingwhich would have “minimal impact on development studies“. Basically, it seems that the publisher is only reviewing the organizational part, while the development projects and studios would not have been affected.

However, all this does not seem to concern only the North American context: Take-Two underlined that has initiated other procedures in accordance with local legislation (outside the USA therefore) which could lead to further cuts. The reason would be an alignment of the organization with long-term goals.

In reality, these are not unexpected actions, as the publisher had already discussed a cost reduction plan in the third quarter of last year. The plan called for savings of $50 million that would have an impact on “personnel, processes, infrastructure and other areas“.
