Steve Smith after winning the toss, opted to bat first and Australia posted a daunting 480 runs, powered by Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green, who put on a brilliant 208-run stand, the highest this series.

The first wicket stand between Gill and Skipper Rohit was broken when the latter holed one staright to Marnus Labuschagne at extra cover. Cheteshwar Pujara came in at three and the pair went on to add a 113-run partnership before Pujara was trapped leg before off Todd Murphy.
