PARIS — France is bracing for hundreds of thousands of protesters against a pension overhaul that has triggered some of the country’s worst unrest in years, with demonstrators blocking roads and marching onto the tracks of a central Parisian train station Tuesday.
The strikes, which have shut down railways and schools in recent days, pile pressure on President Emmanuel Macron to resolve a standoff with unions over his plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Protests in recent days have degenerated into clashes on the streets of Paris, which are already heaving with garbage as trash collectors remain on strike.
