Earlier this month, student at american university petitioned college leaders to introduce Narcan – an antidote for drug overdoses – in university dormitories. Why? Because recently a student of AU was admitted to the hospital due to consuming poisonous medicine.
“Waiting to implement NARCAN in the AU is unethical and deadly,” the petition argued.
At the University of Houston, a student committed suicide by jumping from the top floor of a classroom building – the third student to die in this manner. The solution, student advocates suggested, was to modify the structure with “anti-suicide infrastructure,” like a bar or a net.

College students have problems. In fact, they’ve always had problems. Many are depressed and penniless, and some experiment with alcohol and illegal drugs.
Whose job is it to deal with the daily challenges of college students? University leaders declare that this is their job. They promise to happily deal with all of the students’ problems if they can get enough federal money to hire more well-paid administrators to focus on the crisis of the time.
I’m fine with that. But here’s the thing. CCollege administrators have become so focused on the social problems of their students that they have forgotten their original mission: Ko Ensure that students receive a solid education that prepares them to become mature adults who can function in the real world.
As we recently saw law students at Stanford University shouted a federal appellate judge who were invited to speak on campus. But San Francisco State University, Riley GainesAn invited speaker who argued that men should not compete in women’s university sports was attacked with threats and obscenities and had to be escorted from the speech venue by police.
Colleges have been transformed from institutions of learning into nurseries, treated like infants to pampered adults. Our universities love this situation because their students have become so stupid that they are willing to take out student loans to be treated like children.
