We are talking more and more often about Megapacksthe huge ones Tesla storage systems born for urban (or industrial) contexts who need to support their grid affected by natural cataclysms, as in the case of Puerto Rico, or to accumulate energy obtained from renewable sources and detach from fossil fuels, as in the case of the United Kingdom or Belgium.

The demand for these gigantic batteries it is so high that Tesla is working at breakneck speed, producing 42 Megapacks per week at Gigafactory Nevadain addition to the new one Megafactories in California, recently entered into operation.

Musk’s goal is to reach a production capacity of 40 GWh of Megapacks per year to be able to satisfy more and more customers in a reasonable time.

Like the community of Lessines, in Belgium, where a WWII turbojet generatorhaving provided energy support to the community since the 1950s, has retired, making way for 40 Tesla Megapacks.

The Deux-Acren project also examined the sound impact, extremely burdensome when the turbojet was in operationseeing in Tesla products a valid alternative not only in environmental terms, but also in terms of acoustic comfort.

“The Megapack is quieter and supports the local electric grid with energy transfer and stabilization services and seamless integration with more renewable sources”Tesla said, commenting on the video of the project.

With the 40 Tesla Megapacks now installed, the Deux-Acren facility can store as much up to 100 MWh of energy and up to 50 MW of power.

Michael Coudyser, general manager of Corsica Sole, which developed the project, said the plant was fully funded by Corsica Sun And Mirova Energy Transition 5without any public subsidy.

“A pioneer in energy storage in France, Corsica Sole has been operating this type of plant in the French islands since 2015. This project is an important step for the development of electricity storage solutions in Europe. We financed this project with our shareholder Mirova Energy Transition 5, without any public subsidy. By demonstrating that the use of batteries on a large scale is economically feasible, we are demonstrating that we can build a world based on renewable energies together with energy storage. With this project, Corsica Sole changes scale and becomes one of the European leaders in the sector. The multiplication of this type of projects is a strategic issue to ensure Europe’s energy sovereignty”Coudyser said in a statement.

Accumulation Europe

The system was activated in December and is the first of three 100 MWh projects in Belgium which should come into operation by the end of the year.
