Anyone who has an iPhone and can’t try any other product that isn’t branded Apple will tell you how AirDrop, which is Apple’s proprietary file exchange system, is one of those tools he couldn’t do without. And if you’ve tried it, you’ll surely understand why. In the Android ecosystem for some years now there is a similar file exchange system called Nearby Shares (opening image), which also works on Chrome OS.

Today, however, we present a truly universal alternative to AirDrop for Android and more. In fact, it will be possible to take advantage of this system on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows PC, Mac and Linux. The application is called LANDrop and it’s not only free but it’s also open source.

The software is free to download on the site for Android and for PC, while for iOS you can find it on the App Store. The application is not absolutely new and indeed it hasn’t been updated for over a year, but it works so well that we felt like going back and not telling you about it (to be precise, we had told on TikTok).

The software has very basic graphics but works very well for exchanging any type of file between devices of any type, as long as these are connected to the same LAN network (and therefore Wi-Fi). Transfer speeds are great and you can exchange multiple files at the same time.

In our short video we show you how you can take advantage of this little utility.

Let us know in the comments if you too used this software or if you use some other type of similar alternative (therefore different from cloud or chat services) to exchange files with other devices in the vicinity.
