A few months after the renewal of the Fire Tablet 7 series, Amazon has announced the new tablets of the Fire HD 8 series, going to expand its offer with a new Plus variant. Then the new ones arrive Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8 Plustwo devices that retain all the key features of Amazon’s low-end tablets, but which now improve some aspects of hardware and functionality.
The main difference between the basic and the Plus version concerns a few elements, such as the inclusion of a 5 MegaPixel rear camera (instead of 2), wireless charging, faster wired charging and the presence of 3 GB of RAM, against i 2 GB of the standard model. On both we find the new hexa-core 2.0 GHz processor, capable of offering 30% higher performance than the last generation. The battery also improves, which on both models reaches 13 hours of autonomy.
For the rest we find no other hardware differences, so the display is the usual unit from 8 “with 1,280 x 800 pixel resolutionthe internal memory amounts to 32/64 GB expandable. Overall this is therefore a minor update, at least from this point of view.
Unfortunately, the news ends here with regard to the model sold in Italy, while in the USA and in a few other markets we find the new function Tap to Alexa, which allows you to access the digital assistant even without using voice commands, but simply by typing texts or through a remote control via Bluetooth. This is a function designed primarily for accessibility, which is currently not available on the variant sold in Italy.
The new Fire HD 8 will be available on our market starting in October 19 – with pre-orders open from today – for the price of 114.99 euros for the 32 GB model with advertisingwhile switching to 144.99 euros for that from 64 GB. Prices go up to 129.99 and 159.99 respectively for ad-free versions. Also available premium fabric cases in the colors Black, Blue, Gray and Pink, proposed in 39.99 euros. The Plus version will not be marketed in Italy.
