AMD has released Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2.2 as Open source API and its source code on the GPUOpen.com portal. Introduced last November along with Radeon RX 7900 GPUs, FSR 2.2 upscaling technology is already integrated in Forza Horizon 5, Need for Speed Unbound and F1 22.

With this additional step AMD allows to all developers, even hobbyists (modders), to implement FSR 2.2 in their titles and projects. Currently the FSR technology, in its various versions, is supported in 250 between current future gamesof which 110 implement FSR 2 (65 of which are already available).

FSR 2.2 represents the second update of AMD’s temporal upscaling technology and further refines image quality. The most important change reported by the company concerns the reduction of the so-called “High Velocity Ghosting“, a common problem with many games, especially racing games when playing in third person, i.e. with the whole vehicle view. “This is why the first three games to have FSR 2.2 before release on GPUOpen I’m from motor racing.”

In practice, it is reduce that ghost effect where the image is replicated and offset, superimposing it on the new frame. Other updates that improve the quality of the image intervene on the reduction of flickering of objects. In the meantime AMD continues to work on FSR 3a further technological improvement that should double the fps at the same image quality compared to FSR 2.
