LSU lifts National Championship trophy after defeating Iowa

Angel Reese is going to the White House after all.
The LSU women’s basketball star confirmed in an interview on ESPN on Friday morning that she will join her teammates in their celebratory visit to Washington, despite feeling “hurt” by First Lady Jill Biden’s comments over the weekend.
“I’m a team player,” Reese said. “I’m going to do what’s best for the team, and I’m the captain. I know the team would love it.”
An LSU spokesperson confirmed Thursday that the school would accept President Joe Biden’s invitation to celebrate their national championship at the White House, as is tradition. But it was unclear whether Reese planned to be among those in attendance.

The sophomore forward had previously indicated that she had no intention of visiting the White House after Jill Biden’s comments following the national championship game. The First Lady floated – then walked back – the idea of having LSU be joined by national runner-up Iowa in their traditional White House visit, because the Hawkeyes “played such a good game.”
The notion of inviting both teams rankled Reese, who was the most Outstanding Player of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. The 20-year-old denounced the idea and said “we’ll go to the Obamas” instead.
“It was emotional for us, because we know how hard we worked all year, for everything,” Reese said on ESPN on Friday. “That hurt us in the moment. But just going back on it, the team, you don’t get that experience (of visiting the White House) ever. So being able to go back, and I know my team probably wants to go for sure, and my coach is supportive of that. So I’m going to do what’s best for the team.”
