The glorious Antonov An-225 Mriya was dramatically destroyed during the early stages of the Russian invasion of Ukraine returns to fly, albeit digitally: this ultra-heavy aircraft is the protagonist of theadd-ons Of Microsoft Flight Simulator which reproduces in every detail the holder of the record for aircraft with longest length (84 meters) and of the larger wingspan (88.74 meters) among the models that actually entered service. By purchasing the paid add-on pack, you will be able not only to pilot the An-225 Mriya in the game, but also to contribute to its reconstruction in the real world.
The photos of the wreckage of the Antonov An-225 Mriya inside its abnormal hangar, with its yellow-blue livery in homage to the Ukrainian flag, are among the most published images of the first phase of the war in Ukraine. The mighty aircraft had entered service at the time of the Soviet Union, at the end of 1988, and was used for the transportation of components for the space program up to the Baikonur Cosmodrome, it could also fly with the Buran mounted on the back of the fuselage. In the 1990s it was reconverted as a cargo aircraft for cargo transport, being able to carry up to 250 tons in the hold or 200 tons outside. At the end of February 2022, the An-225 Mriya had been parked for almost a month in its hangar after the last mission in China to recover 90 tons of Covid-19 tests, when destroyed by Russian bombing.
From today it is possible to make the Antonov take off again on Microsoft Flight Simulator thanks to the add-on available on PC, Xbox and in the cloud versions at a price of 20 euros approximately. All proceeds will be destined to raise funds for the reconstruction of the aircraft which will use a second unfinished model as a basis, which will also use parts of the original aircraft that are still intact: a total of around 500 million euros will be needed.
