With a official post on your site, EAs and Respawns they announced the definitive closure of Apex Legends Mobile, version for smartphones and tablets of the well-known FPS. Unfortunately, however, it is not the only project abandoned by the publisher: it also appears in the announcement Battlefield Mobile.
According to reports, it was a decision made by both parties, both by Electronic Arts and Respawn as well as by Lightspeed & Quantum Studios (part of Tencent and current developer of PUBG Mobile). Respawn provided more details in a separate statement in which he explained:
“We aim to provide players with products that are consistently great. After a solid start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile started falling short of that bar in terms of quantity, quality, and cadence. It is for this reason that after months of working with our partner we have together made the decision to abandon our mobile game“.
The definitive closure of the title will take place on May 1st, while the game will already be removed from the stores and purchases with real currency have already been disabled. Electronic Arts also stressed that, in compliance with the agreement accepted by gamers, none of the purchases already made will be refunded.
However, Apex Legends Mobile is not the only title referred to by the publisher: Battlefield Mobile has also been cancelled. The title, announced in 2021, will never see the light as the company intends to focus on the experience already available on consoles and PCs as well as on next chapters of the franchise already in pre-production.
Unfortunately, together with the cancellation it will also be closed Industrial Toys, the studio that was developing it. The latter had been launched by the co-founder of Bungie and acquired by EA in 2018. The company did not disclose, however, how many employees will lose their jobs following the closure.
The release of Electronic Arts concludes by suggesting that there may still be room to offer an experience for mobile devices linked to Apex Legends but, simply, this first attempt did not achieve the desired results.
