There NASA updates us on the Artemis mission by announcing a new launch window for the Space Launch System, now returned to the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) for further checks and to shelter from the passage on Florida of Hurricane Ian. Inspections are underway, but fortunately the hardware does not appear to have suffered any damage from the fury of the extraordinary event.
All the structures are intact, the American space agency only reports some water infiltrations which, however, do not seem to cause concern among the insiders. Further checks are planned in the coming days on the SLS rocket and the Orion spacecraft ahead of the launch of Artemis I.
Speaking of launch, until now there was talk of an unspecified “end of October” for take-off, now NASA is able to be more precise especially in light of the unexpected delays caused by the hurricane. The new launch window has been set between 12 and 27 November:
Over the next few days, managers will evaluate the work to be done within the VAB and identify a specific date for the next launch attempt.
We will therefore have to wait a couple of months more before witnessing the historic launch that will bring us back to the Moon in view of the Artemis III mission with which man will return to the lunar soil.
