The next generation of the BMW X2 will present evident differences compared to the current one. As we have seen from the first spy photos that have emerged over the last few months, the new model will increase slightly in size and will have a roof line that gradually descends towards the rear to give the car the shape of an SUV Coupé, going to look a bit like the BMW X4.
This important change in design could be justified by the fact that for some time there has been talk of the possibility that the German brand could, in the future, go and eliminate the X4 model. The new X2, therefore, could go to “fill the gap” left by the X4.
The new generation of the X2, however, will be proposed also in the 100% electric version which will be called BMW iX2. Just a forklift of this model was intercepted during the classic winter tests in Northern Europe.
IN CHARGE WITH THE SUPERCHARGERS
The new spy photos highlight a very interesting detail. Indeed, the BMW iX2 was photographed while recharging at a Tesla Supercharger. As we know, Elon Musk’s company is gradually opening its fast charging stations to all electric cars. However, it is certainly one of the first times that a forklift of a model under development by a European manufacturer, still disguised, has been seen filling up with energy at a recharging point until recently reserved only for electric cars in the american brand.
However, the images allow us to take a further look at the shapes of the new generation of the BMW X2. The insides cannot be seen. However, the German brand will surely equip the new X2/iX2 with BMW Curved Display which inside contains the screens of the instrumentation and the infotainment system. A solution that we now find practically in almost all new BMW models.
As for the powertrain of the BMW iX2, there is still no official information. However, it’s possible it could adopt the same powertrain as the BMW iX1. Thus, a dual 230 kW/313 HP electric motor powered by a battery with a capacity of 64.7 kWh.
The presentation of the new generation of BMW X2 could take place later this year or early next. Surely, more news on the development of this model will arrive in the coming months.
