It’s a Brad Pitt as perhaps we have never seen what appears in the first trailer from Babylonthe new film by Damien Chazellenext to one Margot Robbie always histrionic and surprising. With this new film, the Oscar-winning director returns to tell his love for Hollywood and Los Angeles, already addressed in what is perhaps his most loved title, La La Land. In this case, the story is set in the late 1920s, when the film industry was experiencing the sensational revolution that would bring from silent films to so-called talkies, with the introduction of synchronized sound as well. Pitt plays an extravagant silent star while Robbie is a very determined starlet and both must navigate an increasingly unpredictable and tempting world.

Compared to the staid construction of his previous films, here we see grandiose and deliberately chaotic productions, including dancers, alcohol and cocaine-based parties, great film scenes and a tight and thunderous editing. On the other hand, Chazelle wanted a change of pace after his previous one First Man of 2018, which had received excellent reviews but failed to become a phenomenon in the public as it had been La La Land. Surely two mega-stars like Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, both beloved and whose chemistry on the screen seems obvious, will help the race to success of this new title, which obviously aims to achieve a lot resonance at the next Oscars.

In the cast of the film there was also to be Emma Stone, in the role that went to Robbie after the La La Land star retired for other engagements on set. In the film, however, several other big names appear, starting with that of Jean Smart, a great actress recently awarded an Emmy and who is experiencing a new phase in her career, as well as Diego Calva, Tobey Maguire, Spike Jonze, Samara Weaving and Olivia Wilde. Babylon will be released in American theaters at the end of 2022, while we in Italy will have to wait for the January 2023.
