To electrify the fleet of cars on the road, it is not enough to sell more cars, but it must also grow the charging infrastructure. They know it well in BelgiumA country where many citizens already own a battery car, so much so that a Brussels about 18% of the inhabitants drive one, 10% more than the national average.
For this reason, as explained by Alain Maron, minister of Brussels for climate transition and the environment, the government of the city has established a new obligation for all parking spaces in the city and its surroundings, which they will have to equip themselves with recharging points.

The new rule applies to car parks with 10 or more spacesand differs based on workplaces and public parking lots. The offices must have at least 10% of the places equipped with recharging points by January 1, 2025and at least 20% by January 1, 2030. For public car parks the share is exactly half, 5% by 2025 and 10% by 2030.
With this measure, and others already implemented in the past, the city wants to have 22,000 charging points by 2035, or 20,000 more than those currently available. Fundamental to this milestone too the reduction of bureaucracy launched in 2021: it takes only 2 months between application and approval instead of the previous 6 months.
