Over the past few hours, Samsung has released a new update for Camera Assistant, the application of the Good Lock suite that expands the stock camera options to allow greater flexibility for the user. The latest update brings the app to the version 1.1.00.3 and is expressly addressed to all Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S22, even if the latter will be able to take advantage of all the new features present only after having received the update to One UI 5.1, one of the necessary requirements to use the new options present. But let’s see what they are.
The main theme of this update is about improving the shooting speed, but there are also other small changes to other secondary options. For example, now the voice Photo smoothing it is no longer a simple toggle to activate or deactivate it, but has a drop-down menu that allows you to choose three intensity levels: High, Medium, Off. There is also a new option called Screen size during recordingThat reduces the brightness of the screen after a certain number of minutes (selectable from the dedicated drop-down menu) of inactivity in the video recording. Among other novelties we also find the possibility of manually choose the interval between photos within the entry Multi-photo timer options.
As for the speed in shooting times, Samsung has introduced two important innovations. The first concerns a toggle that now allows you to take the photo as soon as the dedicated key is pressed and not at the time of its release, as is normally the case. This saves a few moments and has no negative impact on quality; the only thing to be aware of is that if you hold down the shutter to generate continuous shots, videos or GIFs, it will also still take a photo on the first tap.
The second novelty is the new submenu Capture speedwithin which they are present two sections, one dedicated to 12 MegaPixel shots and one to high resolution shots (therefore 50/108/200 MP depending on the smartphone). This new item replaces the previous toggle that allowed you to shoot faster in exchange for lower photo quality. Now the menu allows you to choose 3 presets for 12 MegaPixel mode (Priority on Quality, Balance Speed and Quality, Priority on Speed), while for the high resolution shots we can only choose 2 options (Priority on Quality and Priority on Speed).
All options that prioritize speed allow you to perform extremely fast shots even at 200 and 50 MegaPixelsbut – especially in the case of 200 MP photos – it is possible to notice a fair loss of quality, so it is good to choose the configuration based on what you want to achieve.
