As already written in the past, the mission Shenzhou-14 composed by Chinese astronauts Cai Xuzhe, Chen Dong And Liu Yang it will be one of the most complex ever faced by China’s space program. In fact, in addition to being in orbit inside the Chinese space station Tiangongwill have to face the arrival of the two laboratory modules Wentian And Mengtian.
The first laboratory module was launched this morning. A 5B Y3 Long March rocket was used due to the massia. This series of rockets has been rendered “famous” due to the uncontrolled return in 2021. In the next few hours Wentian will join the main module Tianhe with an automated procedure. The arrival of two new modules in the course of 2022 will allow the construction of the Chinese space station expanding the internal volume. There will therefore be more space to accommodate more astronauts at the same time and do scientific research in microgravity.
The Wentian module is on its way to the Chinese space station
As reported officially from the CMSA, Chinese human space flight agency, the launch took place at 8:22 today (Italian time). The Long Gear 5B rocket it departed from the Wenchang spaceport with the separation of the payload which occurred 495 “after departure. This is the 24th mission for the CMSA, the second to launch a space station module and the first if we consider the laboratory modules.

As written above, with the arrival of Wentian there will be a greater internal volume for Chinese astronauts, there will be a section dedicated to the preparation for extravehicular activities (EVA) with airlock, a warehouse section, has an external robotic arm and new sleeping places. The take-off mass was 23 tons. The overall dimensions are 17.3 x 4.2 meters. This module can also be used as a backup of Tianhe in case the latter has problems.

Before joining the main module, Wentian it had to rotate 180 ° changing its orientation with respect to the launch (also in this case it was an automated operation). After the launch it was also confirmed that the 6.5 meter solar panels were opened correctly thus providing useful energy for the power supply (up to 7.3 kW).

A peculiarity of the laboratory modules will be to have space for external racks to conduct experiments. These will be sections dedicated to the study of biology and physics and fluid dynamics. Also inside there will be complete sections, which can be assembled and interchangeable for carrying out experiments (such as hoods with gloves and more). The next module, Mengtian, will be launched in October to complete the Chinese space station which will take the form a “T”. There could be up to six astronauts in orbit at the same time by the end of the year, setting a record for the Asian nation and opening a new era.
