“Chinese Ferrari”, the Italian plant will be made: deed for the land shortly

In recent days, a remote meeting was held between the representatives of the region Emilia Romagna and the vertices of Silk-FAWthe American and Chinese joint venture readyto produce hybrid hypercars in the so-called Italian Motor Valley. The agreement for the construction of the establishment now found, but the signatures are still missing.

During the meeting, the representatives of the two companies confirmed the previously announced commitments that foresee an investment from 1.3 billion euros in the municipality of Reggio Emilia. They also notified that the signature of the deed for the purchase of the area of Gavassa will happen on 5th Augustwhile in September an event will be held to celebrate the start of construction works.

After the uncertainties shown by Silk-Faw in recent months, the councilor for development Vincenzo Collahe brakes in enthusiasm, requesting a signed commitment. Colla asked for a verbalcountersigned by the president of Silk-EV Jonathan Krane and by the engineer Li Chongtian for FAW, which sanctions the commitments made for now only verbally.

A press release issued by the Emilia-Romagna region states that “This is a ‘due and important’ step for the industrial project of the Silk-EV Americans and the FAW Chinese. A project that foresees, according to the intentions of the proponents, to create a plant for the design and production of luxury hybrid cars that concerns Emilia-Romagna and, in particular, the Reggio area“.

The plant will deal with the design, development and construction of the branded cars Hongqi of the S seriesor the Hongqi S7 and the Hongqi S9. In particular, of the latter we had already talked in August 2021 on the occasion of Milan Design Week when the car was shown for the first time in Italy.

Since then, however, a push and pull has begun that has induced the commissioner Colla to ask for something more in the last meeting, compared to the mere promises made by Silk-FAW. However, it seems that the company is convinced of its intentions, which if carried out will generate 1,000 new jobs.

In any case, although based on a Chinese platform, the price of the two Hongqi will not be accessible at all: in the case of the S9 the price list should start from1.5 million euros.
