At the end of October we wrote about the publication of the finalist photographs at the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2022. This photographic competition is decidedly particular because it does not focus only on the beauty of the images (which have animals as their subject) but also on the possibility of concretely helping theecosystem thanks to donations that support these issues.

In the past several photographs of previous editions have been around the world for their goliardic spirit and the sympathy they inspire. And also in this year’s edition several decidedly witty images were shown and they have “surprised” users for the funny expressions of the subjects (which, remember, are only animals). Now the jury has also expressed its opinion on the overall winner (indeed, winner) of 2022: it is about Jennifer Hadley.

Jennifer Hadley wins the 2022 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards

American photographer Jennifer Hadley she managed to win over the jury with her titled photograph “Not so cat-like reflexes” (or “not so feline reflexes”). This is the image that is actually among the most iconic of this edition and takes up a young lion cub trying to get down from a tree in the African savannah. Unfortunately the feline failed to make a soft landing displaying a funny scene immortalized by Hadley.

The scene is described like this “this three month old cub and his brother were up in a tree. The other lionesses were in other trees and on the ground. He wanted to get off and he walked all over the branches looking for the right spot and finally he tried. It was probably his first up a tree and his descent didn’t go very well.” The photographer wanted to reassure everyone by declaring “He was fine even after he landed. He got up and ran off with other puppies”. Hadley will now have the opportunity to spend an expense-free Kenya safari in addition to a (symbolic) handmade trophy and Think Tank Camera Bag.

For the category Spectrum Photo Creatures in the Air Award was won by the French Jean-Jacques Alcalay. The photograph has the title “Misleading African Viewpoints 2” and show a hippopotamus that seems to want to swallow a heron that is sitting on the back of another hippopotamus immersed in water. But this is just a random arrangement.

Always within the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2022for Creatures Under the Sea Award, the winner was the Spaniard Arturo Telle Thiemann. In the image we see two triggerfish intrigued by the photographic equipment, with the photographer pointing out how these fish are sometimes aggressive. Thiemann himself also pointed out how the two fish somehow marked the protective shell of the camera during the dive.

For Affinity Photo 2 People’s Choice Award we still find Jennifer Hadley with photography “talk to the fin!” showing a pair of penguins taken in the Falkland Islands. The scene, humanized, seems to show the two birds during an argument showing the flipper to remove the partner.

Instead, the Indian won the Junior Award Arshdeep Singh who photographed a spotted owl emerging from a pipe. In particular, the image was captured during an excursion organized a year after the start of the pandemic in a city called Bikaner.

For Amazing Internet Portfolio Award, it was topping all Jia Chen. In the images you can see a Cooper’s Sparrowhawk that seems to play soccer (staying on the theme of the 2022 World Cup) with a walnut in a park in Ontario (Canada).

A mention should be made for the only Italian awarded (Highly Commended Winners category). It’s about Federica Vinci who took the titled image “Monkey Wellness Centre” (Monkey spa). La Vinci described the photo by saying “walking near a Cambodian temple where groups of wild monkeys lived, I came across this scene: a wild monkey relaxing while his friend was taking care of it”.
