Cupra has long been engaged in electric motorsport. We cannot fail to mention that the manufacturer has achieved important results in championships such as the FIA ​​ETCR and Extreme E. Now, the car manufacturer is taking its electric motorsport strategy one step further. In fact, Cupra has announced its entry into the 2023 Formula E championship. The two companies already collaborate in Extreme E and, therefore, have decided to extend this collaboration to Formula E as well. Thus, the new team is born ABT CUPRA Formula E. Sara Mahindra Racing to supply the powertrain technology.

The single-seaters will be led by the pilots Robin Frijns (Netherlands) and Nico Müller (Switzerland). At the same time as the announcement of Cupra’s entry into the electric series, the new single-seater with the colors of the new team was also officially presented. It is, of course, a Gen3.

Compared to the old Gen2, the new Gen3 they will make it possible to make an important leap in the performance of the single-seaters, to the full advantage of the spectacle of the Formula E races. All the Gen3s will be able to count on a 350 kW engine. At the front there will be a second 250 kW electric motor which will be used only for regenerative braking. Overall, the new single-seaters will have regenerative braking with peaks of up to 600 kW.

Cupra therefore replaces Audi which has been ABT’s partner in Formula E for a long time. Precisely following the farewell of the house with the 4 rings to this championship, ABT had not raced in the last season. Wayne GriffithsCEO of Cupra, commented:
