Netflix has released a real trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series inspired by CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 action RPG and developed in partnership by CDPR itself and the legendary Studio Trigger, which also recently produced the animated series Star Wars: Visions. The first teaser arrived just under a couple of months ago; the new video lasts almost three minutes and was edited by Studio Trigger himself; is in Japanese with English subtitles.

Edgerunners will consist of ten episodes, and will be available in September. According to the official synopsis, it will tell the story of a street boy who tries to survive in Night City (the dystopian city obsessed with technology and cybernetics in which the CDPR game is set) becoming a so-called edgerunner, or an outlawed mercenary.

It is said that not all donuts succeed with the hole, and it is easy to argue that this is the case with Cyberpunk 2077. For one reason or another (mostly technical, it seems, linked to the limits of the RED proprietary graphics engine Engine; that’s probably why the next The Witcher will be developed with Unreal Engine), even after tons of bug fixes and significant improvements, it didn’t live up to expectations. But “the taste of donut can be sensed”, so to speak: Mike Pondsmith and CDPR have managed to create a great setting in which to tell compelling stories. From what little has been seen in the trailer, Edgerunners seems to prove it.

At the same time, Netflix released an “Inside Look” video, or mini documentary if you like, which tells a bit of background on the making of Edgerunners. Finally, there is a very short exclusive video that focuses on the Maelstrom criminal gang, the most “heavy metal” of all (as the soundtrack also demonstrates). We leave them for you below:

Netflix and CDPR have confirmed that Edgerunners will be a completely independent story from Cyberpunk 2077. By following the SOURCE link you will find the landing page of the content on the official Netflix website, if you already want to set a reminder.

The new extended trailer has arrived on the official Netflix channel, edited directly by Studio Trigger. It is only in Japanese with English subtitles, but for fans of the dystopian sci-fi genre from which masterpieces such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell were born it could be argued that it is all added value! Without further ado, here’s the video:
