Ideas with a value: they are simple, but very useful. The twenty best proposals presented in the national editions of the competition born in 2005 participate in a world final. Swim without limits
It was to finish in front of everyone in Italy Argonwearable device to attach to goggles designed by Giuseppe Campanale, Sara Labidi and Daniela Bigon in collaboration with a visually impaired competitive swimmer. The trio comes from the Iuav University of Venice. Argo is capable of signal turn and bearing in the tank through vibrations.
Argo consists of three devices: two placed at the ends of the pool and one worn by the swimmer, who can place it on the top of the head. The two poolside devices communicate with the swimmer with three different vibrations to warn him if he is deviating from the lane or if he has reached the end: central vibration for the pool edge, right or left vibration when moving too far to the side. Campanale admits that “such products already exist, but have exorbitant costs. Not only. “Argo has been selected among the best twenty international projects chosen from all those presented in the countries where we organize the award“, reports Eugenio Zucchini, the company’s communication manager.
Lifebuoy drone
Reaching the castaways at sea can be extremely dangerous for those called to provide help: this is how Edoardo Sernicola, a 35-year-old Colombian who grew up in Italy, thought of add the typical propellers of the drones to the classic lifebuoy. LB Drone, as the invention is called, did not win, but made it to the final. The device, reports Sernicola, can be remotely guided by an operator to reach the castaway and provide him with a precious hold to resist the waves; in the absence of a signal, an autonomous piloting system comes into action capable of directing it.
An innovative walker
27-year-old Martina Arleo is the other finalist. The young designer focused on a well-known tool: the walker used by the elderly and people in rehabilitation. A study conducted on materials made it more aesthetically pleasing than the metal pipes that usually make up these objects; in addition, the seat and transport functions have been added. “A great but simple idea – wrote the jury -, which helps remove some of the psychological barriers to older people’s use of support tools“.
