From now on in the United States there will be a brake on these practices, as decided by the road safety body, the NHTSA. The first and obviously stricter rule is that users will no longer be able to choose a custom sound at low speeds (up to 30 km / h), as pedestrians complained of an inability to distinguish the arrival of a vehicle in case of music or other strange noises. Precisely for this reason Tesla had been forced to recall more than half a million vehicles via software.

Pedestrian Warning

Likewise there will be rules that will establish the type of warning sound – the so-called pedestrian warning – but whose responsibility will remain with the manufacturers. Vehicles of the same model, year and segment and equipment they must have the same sound. The sounds, even if chosen, must be well audible e without changes based on speed. So goodbye also to fake heat engines that accelerate as the kilometers per hour increase.

Considering the tendency of the European Community, usually more severe than the American counterpart, an expected function could therefore never reach our latitudes, where instead it will aim for extremely restrictive rules (as in the matter of assisted and autonomous driving).
