Ferrovie dello Stato and TIM announce: complete 4G coverage on the Bologna-Florence high-speed line

The FS Italiane Group, TIM as lead and operators iliad, Vodafone and WINDTREhave activated, on schedule, the coverage system with 4G technology along the route and in the tunnels of the Bologna-Florence high-speed line. In July, as reported in this news, the upgrade works to 4G technology had already been completed in the tunnels between Milan and Bologna.

The new activation allows you to obtain the complete coverage of the high-speed Milan-Florence section. The necessary technical checks by TIM and RFI (FS Italiane Group) and the other operators will continue in the coming weeks. In addition to upgrading the telecommunications systems, the works also involved upgrading the line’s power supply equipment.

During 2023 work towards 4G technology will continue from Florence to Rome and Naples and, as scheduled, from Turin to Milan and from Bologna to Venice. The goal of the FS group is then to “extend these activities also to conventional linesstarting from the busiest routes, for the benefit of Intercity and Regional train passengers and railway freight companies”.
