A new benchmark has recently emerged that gives a better idea about the specs of the upcoming Pixel 7 Pro, specifically the CPU and GPU improvements of Google’s new processor, the Tensor G2. In detail, the new Tensor G2 uses the same combination of two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores already seen on the previous model, albeit with slightly higher clock speeds. This detail, combined with the smallest 4nm die size used, it seems improve the Tensor G2 and Pixel 7 Pro multi-core benchmark by around 10%.
It doesn’t seem like a big step forward, but that’s not what Google would be focusing on. The company, in fact, should “recover” the work done by Qualcomm’s processor – lo Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 – about the reduction of heat and energy efficiency. In short, yes to the increase in performance, but with a careful eye on efficiency.
As for the GPU, there is a transition from Mali-G78 to Mali-G710. This new component will offer 20% better performance, greater energy efficiency (20%) and even 35% higher performance in machine learning. Among other things, it would seem that in its latest processor Google also wants to introduce a new generation of its own Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) – code name “Janeiro”. One final detail almost confirmed by the benchmark is that the Pixel 7 Pro will likely have 12GB of RAM just like the Pixel 6 Pro.
Therefore, according to what has emerged, It doesn’t look like the Pixel 7 Pro will be a major upgrade for those who already own a Pixel 6 Pro. However, the measures introduced could certainly favor a better user experience. In short, it will be necessary to wait for the official presentation on 6 October.
