We do not write about it to give visibility to certain junk but to broaden the range. The fact is, on the other hand, repulsive: a Councilor of the District 3 of Florence for the League and party leader in that little town assembly, Alessio Di Giuliowhich makes a video filming a Roma woman and inviting his party to vote “never to see her begging in the city again“:”On September 25, vote for the League to never see her again. To never see her again“. And publishing it on his Facebook page (among other things, it would be interesting to understand in what terms that content can stay online for many hoursin the light of the recent words of Luca Colombo, head of Facebook Italy, just two days ago a Republic). Strengthening that post after a few hours, obviously xenophobic and discriminatory, with the article of the criminal code that punishes the crime of “Harassing begging“. In the end, at the time of writing, the video, commented and relaunched by many, is no longer available.

End. The issue that interests us does not seem connected but it is, and how. In view of the elections, many, especially in the center-left, are uncertaineaten up by doubt, tired of engaging in the blackmail of the “lost vote” and in substance they don’t know who to vote: “This time no, I don’t vote them”. Freddi with Enrico Letta who is conducting an electoral campaign knowing that he is losing, disheartened by the galaxy of small parties on his left, disappointed by the tear of Carlo Calenda, ended up with Matteo Renzi to campaign with the aim of stripping the Pd more than Forza Italia . Although their third pole will likely be the fifth, if not the sixth. On the other hand the share of those who will abstain or are uncertaintransversal to all political orientations, is enormous: polls have always placed it around a monstrous 40%.

This is exactly the point. Perhaps many still do not know who to vote for, and it is legitimate in the face of a very poor political offer, but they should know very well who Not vote. For example, the parties that give space to people like the councilor of Florence: these people are the base that hatches under certain party leaders, indeed that supports them and collects vote by vote for them. They are their engine on the territory and in the institutions, they are the people – from district councilors or from deputies and senators to Montecitorio or Palazzo Madama, it does not matter and does not change – who they decide our daily lives. And that start from those assumptions, from those personal disvaluesfrom a society where you can shoot videos on your phone humiliating people, “Eliminating” them virtually, using them to campaign. Without perceiving any shame, any modesty, any gravity of these facts.

There is always a phase, before a political election, in which the “elevated” threads around the political principles, sacrosanct, they clash against this army of political shame and misery. We know where these miseries come from – mostly, not in an absolute sense, unfortunately no one is immune – we know which parties they belong to or which ones give them the opportunity to stand as candidates, of which groups they are local or national representatives and we know what their conduct, their morals, their idea of the world and of society are. So there must also be a time when a point is put to that debate, made up of a little too frequent malpancisms: you look at the political offer and, if it is really so disheartening, you give a vote first starting from “what we are not. This is how democracies keep against the risks of those who would like to bomb them at their foundations: it is not a question of voting for the least worst, which is also a humanly and politically frustrating exercise, but to curb the worst. Or of get involvedon several levels, in the exercise of passive political rights. Tertium non datur. Indeed yes: it’s that stuff in the government and a lot of good lounges that stink of indifference.
