Forspoken in 10 minutes of gameplay. It will have a Devil May Cry style combo system

On the occasion of the Gamescom in Cologne, Square Enix fulfilled fan requests by releasing a lengthy gameplay footage for Forspoken. The action RPG, which to date has undergone two postponements, is shown in action in a full-bodied trailer entirely dedicated to Freythe heroine who will find herself catapulted into the magical world of Athia. We take the opportunity to take a closer look at the boundless game world and the combat system: the latter seems to reserve some surprises, winking at the most iconic exponents of the action genre.

Forspoken: Frey’s powers in a long gameplay trailer

“Frey Hollanddaydreamer, cat lover, New Yorker “. The new trailer released by Square Enix presents us again the character of Frey, a simple girl who is mysteriously transported to an unknown, magical and dangerous world.

Thanks to Cuff, a sentient bracelet, Frey gains the ability to cast powerful spells and use magic to move nimbly across the vast lands of Athia. Soon the protagonist will come into contact with the local population, as well as meet the antagonists on duty: let’s talk about Tanthacorrupt matriarchs who unleash their wickedness against the inhabitants of Athia.

As he desperately searches for a way home, Frey will usher in his journey to the lands of Athia. In the video we see some of the most important locations of the setting up close, starting from Cipal, a large city that welcomes refugees who have escaped the corrupting force of Ruin; here Frey will accept new assignments and be able to exchange resources for valuable goods.

In the side quest shown in the trailer, Frey found a rare fragment of odvaha, a rather rare mineral which would allow a blacksmith to make very strong armor and items. During her recovery mission, the protagonist explores the wilderness and encounters monsters suffering from corruption. In these situations Frey shows off his new elemental powers, unleashing storms of ice and fire against his enemies.

By peering at the battles we notice the presence of a curious counter. Apparently, it comes down to a combo classification system which recalls the one present in Devil May Cry: our attacks will be evaluated – with degrees ranging from D to A – based on the amount of damage inflicted and the ability to chain spells. Not only that, but it will be possible to increase your rating by exploiting the vulnerabilities of enemies and dodging attacks.

The inventory is also shown which will catalog the objects found in the world of Athia, what they may be cloaks, magic necklaces and other items which will provide Frey with any advantages in combat. In the wilds we will come across some shelterswhere the heroine will be able to rest and improve her equipment thanks to a work table.

We remember that Forspoken still in development at the studios of Luminous Productions. Its release is now scheduled for January 24, 2023for PC and in exclusive time for PS5.
