From 0 to 100 km / h in 1,461 seconds: the new world record set by a team of students

The GreenTeam of the University of Stuttgart, consisting of 20 students with skills in various fields, has established the new world record for acceleration with an electric vehiclerecording the time of 1,461 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h.

The previous record was broken on 23 September, with a test on the Bosch track in Renningen, Germany, and the result was confirmed by Guinness World Records on October 6. The attempt to set a new record was actually supposed to take place a few months ago, but in July an accident broke up the cards. During a test the racing car crashed into the tire barriers, sustaining major damage.

It was therefore rebuilt, but at its most beautiful an electronic problem canceled the test at the beginning of September, finally arriving at the current record, where everything worked properly. The 20 members of the GreenTeam, supported by various associations and consolidated realities (such as HWA, former partner of Mercedes in Formula E), they worked on the car for about a yeardesigning and building it from scratch on a dedicated campus at the University of Stuttgart.

The ultra-light racing car, thanks to the use of carbon, e weighs only 145 kgand able to deliver 180 kW of power. The engines are two for four-wheel drive, unusual for a single-seater, all always developed within the university. Due to the low weight, the car expresses the equivalent of approx 1,750 horsepower per tonwith accelerations up to 2.5 gequivalent to those experienced by astronauts upon re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
