The performance of Samsung’s next top-of-the-range smartphones is back in the news. This time the considerations on the results obtained by the (alleged) Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform enhanced for Galaxy S23 Ultra, S23 Plus and S23 are not based directly on the data obtainable from the benchmarks (as happened close to Christmas) but on the indiscretions provided by a leaker which on other occasions has provided a preview of noteworthy information on the devices of the South Korean manufacturer.
Ahmed Qwaider expresses in percentage terms the step forward that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform of the new Galaxy would make possible. Compared to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 based S22 Ultrathe new models would offer a performance index equal to:
- CPUs: +36%
- GPUs: +48%
- NPU: +60%
The leaker further adds that the 4nm processor and the cooling system used will help improve battery consumption and heat dissipation during particularly intense use sessions. It remains to untie the knot posed by the recent Geekbench results which have shown lower performance than that of smartphones based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (unenhanced). The fallibility of the results documented by Geekbench before the debut of a smartphone are known, so it is good to give due weight to this type of indiscretions (as well as those that are not based on reliable and verifiable sources).
The quite evident fact is that the step forward compared to the previous Galaxy S22 range promises to be important according to the latest rumors – and the news is certainly welcome considering that this year also the models marketed in Europe should be equipped with the SoC provided by Qualcomm.

There is one last detail of the intervention of Ahmed Qwaider Who Didn’t Escape Another Leak: According to Ice Universe the reference to the processor with a 4nm production process would suggest that TSMC was the one to make it and not Samsung: it is impossible for Samsung to reach such a high frequencysays Ice Universe who had previously talked about a SoC with a CPU capable of reaching 3.36GHz and a GPU operating at 719MHz.
The unofficial presentation date of the new Galaxy S23 range remains set for next February 1st.
