2022 is coming to an end and, as usual, it’s time for balance sheets too for Google. To the answer on what were the topics most searched for on the net by Italians during the year, the Mountain View giant responds with its usual report. Unsurprisingly, the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine that began in late February and is still taking center stage.
However, there were also types of searches on more frivolous topics, such as sport, music, cinema and TV series. Also capturing the attention of Italians were well-known public figures who passed away during the year. Searching through Google is also considered a useful resource for learning how to carry out certain activities (from quick swabs to WhatsApp polls – see dedicated section).
Research trends clearly show the need to understand what is happening around us, the reasons for a conflict and the personalities that have unleashed it, but there is also a recurring interest in moments of greater irony and levity, sought in sport (from football to tennis) and in its protagonists but also in the music, which clearly fits in with a moment that proves to be as important for Italians as the Sanremo Festival. We also dwelt on the absence of personalities relevant to history, who have left a mark, albeit in different forms: on one side Queen Elizabeth and on the other Piero Angela.
They are indicated in the lists below the 10 trending topics in Italy in 2022 divided into categories.
