The new Translate design, recently introduced on Android with more space to type and a clearer organization of sources to translate from, will soon be implemented on iOS as well. Maps, Immersive view debuts
Also for maps, what was planned and announced a few months ago – in this case at Google I/O in May 2022 – is now seeing the light. Immersive view is the first novelty: thanks to AI and graphics processing, this navigation mode merges billions of Street View and aerial images to give birth to a sort of digital model (or replica) of that place. Enriching the immersion with information such as weather, traffic and crowding. Google gives the example of a visit to a famous museum: the user can fly over the building to locate the entrances and, by changing the time, get a feel for the flow of visitors and the weather forecast. Then maybe go down to street level to explore shops and restaurants (and peep inside too). “Realistic scenes”, Google calls them, the result of the reworking of the contents identified on the net thanks to a technology known as NeRF, neural radiance fields, which basically transforms traditional images into three-dimensional representations. A technique that Big G uses to reconstruct the context of a place, from the lighting to the materials of the furnishings. All this to choose well, indeed choose better. We start immediately from London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. But in the coming months it will also arrive in Italy with Florence And Venice as well as Amsterdam and Dublin.
Search integrated into Live View
After a few months of beta in Google Maps also arrives the integrated search in Live View, the smartphone navigation method launched four years ago: if you need an ATM, a restaurant, a station or want to know where the closest green areas are, you can search everything directly in Live View mode. And by clicking on it they will have additional information. Google had already launched Search with Live View in London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco and Tokyo. Soon Barcelona, Dublin and Madrid will also arrive. Live View works, in many places, even indoors. Electric vehicles: suggested stops and super-fast columns
