Google Spatial Audio on Pixels: Supported apps and smartphones

Just a few hours ago Google released the new December Feature Drop update for its Pixels supported, which includes several interesting new features. We talked about it in this article. Among these we find spatial audio for Pixels and Pixel Buds Pro.

By spatial audio we mean an immersive audio experiencewhich turns out to be a lot engaging especially when listening to content in which there are several audio sources, such as happens in movies. The novelty will come to Januaryaccording to reports from Google, on Pixel Buds Pro. Now let’s go see what the smartphones and the app with which it will be possible to enjoy spatial audio.

Spatial audio will be available to those who access content, with the apps listed above, compatible with 5.1 audio track It is important to clarify that spatial audio will be available on the smartphone models listed independently from using Pixel Buds Pro, i.e. it will come with the sound speakers of smartphones.

To enable it, the following procedure will be required in the Android settings (the entries are not yet present because the novelty will arrive from January):

1. Open the Settings.
2. Tap up Sounds and vibration –> Spatial audio.
3. Activate Spatial audio

In parallel the same spatial audio will be available to those using Pixel Buds Pro with the apps mentioned as well as the Pixel models listed. Specifically, it will be possible to access spatial audio with tracking of head movements, which will make the experience even more immersive. To enable it you will need:

1. Open the Settings.
2. Tap up Connected devices –> Pixel Buds Pro –> Settings –> Head tracking.
3. Activate Head tracking

We reiterate that the innovations just described they are not yet available, but they should be from January. It’s not clear if spatial audio will come next update with the January patches. We will come back to update you as soon as we know more.
