Prince Harry is no longer bound by the “mentality” shared by working members of the Royal Family, a source described as a friend of the Duke of Sussex has claimed. Rather, the royal found in Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, a person “supportive” of his fights and beliefs, which has “emboldened” him, the source also claimed.
Since he and his wife stepped down as full-time working royals, the Duke of Sussex has embraced the freedom he found when losing the status of senior members of the Royal Family.
As such, he seemingly ditched the “never complain, never explained” mantra adopted for seven decades by his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, speaking his mind on the Firm, Britain and his relations with high-profile relatives.
Critical of the British press, Harry has also embarked on a “mission” another source suggested may be open-ended.
Referring to the caution normally adopted by royals and the palace when speaking publicly, the friend told the Sunday Times: “He’s free from the shackles of that mentality.”
While they were seeking a way to still serve the Crown and support royal patronages while also being financially independent and based abroad, they did not find an agreement with the Palace on what was later described as an “half-in, half-out” solution.
At the end of March 2020, they officially bowed out of the Firm and their senior roles, agreeing not to use their HRH styles and eventually relinquishing their military and royal patronages.
Based in California, Meghan and Harry launched a new organisation, Archewell, which includes a non-profit Foundation through which they carry out their charity work.
Archewell also comprises two production powerhouses the pair use to create remunerative audio and video content for streaming platforms.
Stepping down as working royals didn’t just allow Meghan and Harry to become independent from the Sovereign Grant and be able to pursue a career of their own.
It also gave them more freedom to openly speak about their difficulties with the Firm and the press.
The Duke and Duchess, however, haven’t entirely cut their ties with the Royal Family.
Prince Harry said multiple times in interviews he is looking forward to having a close relationship again with his father King Charles and elder brother Prince William.
Moreover, Harry and Meghan have decided to have their children be styled as Prince Archie Harrison and Princess Lilibet Diana, with the royal titles they became entitled to following the accession to the throne of Charles.
