One of the problems that still bores most users the most, regardless of who uses Android or iPhone, are spam. Specifically, the spam callswhich often come from unsaved numbers and which force us to respond because they instill the doubt that it may be an unsaved contact.

Spam calls are very common among users who own a telephone. They often come on a daily basis and no matter how hard you try to ignore them or install apps with spam filters they keep coming. Fortunately there technology goes on and in this context even Google offers an ad hoc tool.

We are talking about the call filter that Google offers to those who own a Pixel, in particular a Pixel 6 series or Pixel 7 series device. how to use the Pixel call filterwhat it consists of and how effective it can be in everyday life.

Pixel call filter is a feature based on Google Assistant which offers to automatically answer telephone calls instead of the user. As it is based on Assistant, the functionality can rely on a certain degree of artificial intelligencethanks to which it will be possible answer and possibly converse with the interlocutor.

The feature is also active in Italian. The user can become aware of the conversation because the functionality offers in real time a transcript of the contents exchanged with the interlocutor. At any time the user can interrupt the phone call, closing the communication or intervening and speaking with the interlocutor.

In the introduction we talked about the call filter in relation to spam calls but it should be noted that the functionality can prove to be also useful in other contextssuch as those where you cannot or do not want to speak directly to the calls.

Using the call filter on Pixels is very simple. To use it it is essential to have enabled the activation of Google Assistant for personal content. This can be done during the initialization phase of the phone or through the settings of the Google Home app, in the Assistant section.

These are the steps for use the Pixel call filter:

1. When a voice call comes in look for the option Call filter within the call in progress interface.
2. Tap on the option Call filter and wait for the call to start.
3. On the screen you should see the call filter interface, with the transcription in real time of what is said by the Assistant and possibly by the interlocutor.
4. At any time it is possible to interrupt communication or answer actually to the call via the two buttons that you find under the transcription box.

At the end of the call it will also be possible consult the transcript again conversation from the call log. In gallery below you will find a graphic overview of all the steps described.

Pixel call filter is also effective in Italian. You can use this option for any spam-prone calls, perhaps those that are reported as potential spam from the phone management app or simply if the calling number is not known or if it is characterized by a prefix that is foreign or from another region than your own.

In short, it is the user to choose when to start the call filter. It certainly works well, with the Assistant’s conversation being clear to the interlocutor and the real-time transcription which is always accurate. Clearly it is immediately clear that it is a virtual assistant, with some pauses and uncertainties in the conversation that are not natural but on the other hand the purpose of functionality is not to be human.

The Assistant-based call filter we just described is available exclusively on Pixel smartphones. Google doesn’t make it officially available for other Android smartphones.

At the moment are not known online methods or procedures that allow the use of the functionality on devices other than Pixel, not even with procedures of modding. This is because the functionality is integrated at the deep level of the Pixels, or at the level of the processor developed also compatibly with the Assistant’s skills.
