The moment when i quantum computers will have enough computing power at their disposal break encryption systems used for telecommunications comes close, although it is still relatively far away. Getting ready for that moment, however, will be essential and for this reason work has already begun to replace current cryptographic techniques with others capable of resisting attacks. IBM has now published a white papers by title “Security in the quantum computing era” (“security in the age of quantum computers”) in which he outlines the best way to prepare for this sea change.
How to be ready for the arrival of quantum computers? IBM’s suggestions

IBM writes that “Quantum computers pose an existential risk to the cryptographic protocols of classical computers, which make virtually all digital transactions possible.” Precisely for this reason in 2016 it was launched by NISTthe US National Institute for Standards and Technology, a call for the creation of new cryptographic standards that could resist the attack of quantum computers.
The result was the publication last July of four new algorithms, three of which were developed with contributions from IBM. We covered this in our article on post-quantum cryptography.
The existing problem now is that of replace the algorithms currently in use with the new ones. Companies therefore need to make sure they are making this transition correctly and the first step to doing this is by properly informing themselves. To this end, IBM has published the “Security in the quantum computing era” guide, which includes suggestions on how to best deal with this transition.
