We have all heard about it by now, for good or for GDPRthe European Union regulation on the processing of personal data which, although it is sometimes a nuisance, has certainly improved the privacy of citizens.
for a fact that has just happened that has the flavor of an incredible Internet paradox: the European Commission was sued by a German citizenjust for violation of the GDPR, and on its own portal. To support the complaint we also find the Europische Gesellschaft fr Datenschutz (EuGD).
The citizen complains that on the occasion of the “Conference on the future of Europe” seminar, it was necessary to register through a dedicated portal, which for indicated Amazon Web Services as the provider. This is in violation of part of the GDPR, which prohibits the transfer of data to the United States.
But not only that, the portal also allowed the login via Facebook, a fairly widespread practice, but which reiterates the same problem, always being an American company. That of the passage of data overseas a much discussed point of the GDPR, just think of all the Google services commonly used every day by millions of European citizens, and in fact the government representatives of the two sides are trying to understand how to solve the situation.
In the meantime, for the aforementioned citizen and the EuGD they preferred to continue with their action, for mismanagement of personal data and lack of adequate information on the site in question. The decision on the case expected within a year and a half.
