We didn’t know the title and we hadn’t even seen a trailer…at least until today. It’s official, we can stop calling it simply Indiana Jones 5 as Lucasfilm’s latest cinematic effort starring the world’s most famous archaeologist has finally an official title, a trailer visible to all and even a teaser poster.
Let’s call it an early Christmas present, but what matters is that we can finally say it: Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny is the title of the film that will close Harrison Ford’s acting cycle as Indy, when it hits theaters on June 30, 2023. Just a few days ago we shared a new image, but now we can finally see what the lucky attendees saw at D23 , when the first trailer was shared with the obligation not to talk about it until the new order.
Recall that in the new film Harrison Ford reprises the title role for the first time in 15 years since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullwhen his heir seemed to be Shia Labeauf.
If this last element will change for sure, what has remained unchanged over the years is the level of adventure and action scenes, with the classic adrenaline-pumping sequences to which the franchise has accustomed us since the days of I Raiders of the Lost Ark. So let’s get ready for new chases, by motorbike, on horseback or by any means available, as well as new sequences of fights, escape from giant stone balls that roll and so on and so forth.
Not only that, the trailer also shows us the first CGI sequences where our Harrison Ford has been rejuvenated for greater adherence to the historical setting period. In fact, let us remember that the new Indiana Jones will be set in 1969in the middle of the period of the lunar conquest by the USA, but the opening sequence will be set in 1944 and for obvious reasons Indy will have to have an appearance as close as possible to what it showed about 8 years after the events of the Raiders of the Lost Ark. This is a technology that is not new and that we have seen in the past, for example in some sequences within the latest Marvel Iron Man films, where Tony Stark was digitally rejuvenated to show past events of his memories.
The trailer also reveals that franchise newcomer Phoebe Waller Bridge (Fleabag) will be part of the main action sequences, sharing the spotlight with Ford (who at the ripe old age of 80 is still bouncing around like a youngster). Since this is just a taste of what’s sure to come, much material from the upcoming blockbuster is under wraps, as is the story of course. What we can glean from the trailer, though, is that Indiana is trying to lead a quiet life and will likely be forced to put his hat back on and crack the whip again due to force majeure, as well as having one last adventure before he hangs up. definitively whip and hat.
Indiana Jones 5 Indiana Jones 5 is directed by two-time Academy Award nominee James Mangold, who previously directed Logan And Ford v. Ferrari. He co-wrote the screenplay with John-Henry Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow) and Jez Butterworth (Specter). Among the actors present we know for sure that there will be names like Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Thomas Kretschmann (King Kong), Boyd Holbrook(Logan), Shaunette Renee Wilson (Black Panther), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Antonio Banderas (The mask of Zorro). As mentioned above, the film is directed by James Mangold and produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, while Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are the executive producers. The soundtrack is once again composed by John Williams, who has scored every Indiana Jones adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981.
Waiting for new trailers, and June 30, 2023, we just have to see the first action sequences in the first official trailer! Here it is to follow.
